For those of you who are new to The Speak Foundation, we are a non-profit organization that seeks to connect the lives of those living with neuromuscular disorders. We have experienced first hand just how refreshing and comforting it is to feel like you are finally surrounded by others who just “get it!”

Our annual conference is open to individuals of all ages and families who are affected by a neuromuscular condition. We always welcome families, caregivers, and those who may be living with different disabilities to attend as well. Each year, we provide a context for relationship building. We work hard each year to plan a conference that strikes just the right balance of providing sessions that cover topics that matter most to the NMD community and also providing free time for attendees and their families to relax, enjoy outings, and connect with each other. We will provide updates here and on facebook about our exciting agenda in the future, so stay tuned for updates! We already have great sessions planned! This year we have exciting presentations coming from the Shepherd Spinal Center in Atlanta, which has one of the best mobility driving clinics in the nation. We have two excellent physical therapists in attendance this year as well to share treatment tips for Muscular Dystrophy. Please note all events are tentative and subject to change. Genzyme Sanofi will also be present as well.

Our hotel this year, the Westin Buckhead Atlanta, was recently updated and is situated in the heart of the upscale Buckhead community, surrounded by the the city’s best luxury shopping, fine dining, and energetic nightlife! We love the Buckhead neighborhood! Westin is next door to the Lenox Square Mall and the Shops Around Lenox and across the street from Phipps Plaza. This is definitely one to plan a trip around and do some exploring! You can read more about our hotel http://www.westinbuckheadatlanta.com/

Part of the process to attend includes completing the registration form at the link above. There is no cost to attend the conference; the Speak Foundation covers your registration/conference fees and provides meals for you plus one guest on Saturday (we simply ask that you pay 20.00 for each guest beyond attendee +1). You are responsible for booking and paying for your hotel stay. **We wanted to provide the link for you (see above) to make your hotel reservations (at our special, reduced rate) early this year, as we know it helps many of us to plan well in advance. Please note that our rooms book up VERY fast each year, so please make plans accordingly to ensure that you are able to receive the accommodations you need!**

“I attended the Speak Foundation conference
for the first time in 2013 and have been hooked ever since!
The conference allowed me to be around others
with similar daily challenges and increased my self-esteem.
I grew more confident in myself and made contacts there
that led to my participation in a diagnostic study
that resulted in my genetic diagnosis.
The friends I have made through Speak are friends for life.
Attending this conference has been life changing!”
Andrea Klein, 42, Ms. Wheelchair TN 2017, Collagen 6 Congenital Muscular Dystrophy,
Cleveland, TN

“The Speak Conference. Amazing. I was taken in as family.
There was laughing, tears and more laughing.
I have gained a confidence I didn’t realize I lacked
or was possible in this journey, thanks to my ‘Speakies’!”
-Lenda H., Age 27, LGMD2E, Indiana

“I have been a ‘Speakie’ for 3 years now.
Before Speak, I dealt with my disability the best way I could,
knowing that life must go on, but I didn’t really have anyone to relate to.
Since Speak, I have learned, yes life goes on,
but there are people who understand and are there for you.
I don’t know what I would do without my ‘Speak family.’
Our laughs, our talks, and our fun times remind me that
your disability is only what your mind won’t allow you to do.”
-Sam B., Age 38, CMT, Georgia

We look forward to having you join us in July! Feel free to email Jessica@thespeakfoundation.com or thespeakfoundation@yahoo.com with any questions. Check out pictures from past years of our conference below.
