2016 Conference Highlight: Sam Shares Tips for Earning Extra Income
Sam lives with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, or CMT, which is a group of inherited disorders that affect the peripheral nerves (the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord). Three years ago, Sam’s issues with fatigue led him to the difficult decision of retiring from his dream career. Sam has a passion for antiques and cars, and had worked in Sales and Technical Service with a world-wide antique auto-parts company for 14 years. Going on disability was a major step down for him financially, and he realized quickly that he had to do something to not only earn extra income, but also foster a sense of purpose. “I found out that I could still earn up to $1,130 a month working, and maintain eligibility for disability.” Sam knew that his fatigue level would make it very difficult to work in certain types of jobs and environments. “I started looking into my own business. Building on my knowledge of classic cars and antiques, I started selling on Ebay. I also began utilizing drop ship programs where I did not have to own inventory myself; I just list items for sale and the companies ship it for me.”
Sam has some plans in the works to earn additional income in the future. “Soon, I will be starting my own Youtube channel where I will earn income from the advertising posted on my videos.” He shares that Youtube is a great source of income “because anyone with ideas or entertainment sense can make money just by using a simple camera!”
